The purpose of the eCR/RCKMS Community of Practice Basecamp is to provide staff from state, local, territorial, and tribal public health agencies with a venue to participate in peer-to-peer discussions pertaining to using RCKMS. This Basecamp is not intended for formal communications about RCKMS or eCR and will not be moderated by CSTE staff. ✅ Using RCKMS to receive Oropouche virus case reports

Dear colleagues,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health advisory about the increased Oropouche virus activity in the United States and associated risk to travelers. In the United States and Europe in 2024, travel-associated cases have been identified in travelers returning from Cuba and Brazil. As testing and surveillance for Oropouche virus disease increase in the Americas, reports of cases from additional countries are expected.

Public health agencies can utilize the current RCKMS reporting specification for Arboviral Diseases [Other] version 4.0 Release 20240628 to receive potential case reports for Oropouche virus. The diagnosis/ problem & laboratory test value sets for Arboviral Diseases [Other] contain SNOMED, ICD10CM & LOINC codes for Oropouche virus & other vectorborne conditions. An Electronic Initial Case Report (eICR) found reportable for Arboviral Diseases [Other] due to diagnosis or lab criteria may contain codes specific to Oropouche virus.

If your jurisdiction has already authored Arboviral Diseases [Other] in RCKMS, we recommend that you update to the most recent version (4.0 Release 20240628). Please ensure that your jurisdiction is authoring conditions in accordance with applicable state laws and regulations.

Hi All, has anyone onboarded this condition grouping yet? If so what sort of eCRs volume are you seeing. One of my Vectorborne disease SMEs is interested in setting this up but wants to know if any potential Oropouche Virus cases are being captured before you were aware of them through other means.

Hi everyone, just wanted to note that it is not surprising to not have seen Oropouche messages yet, given that there are no labs outside CDC and a few public health labs that can currently do the testing. As testing becomes more widely available however (test kits for PRNT and PCR will soon be available in more public health labs, and eventually likely in commercial labs too, along with IgM), I would expect that you will begin to see more suspected and lab-positive cases. Would definitely appreciate folks posting here if they do begin to see eCRs coming through!
