See anything great lately that inspired you?

Along the vein of Michael's random thoughts and inspirations, I watched a few great videos titled "Why Public Transportation Sucks in the US" and "How to Fix Traffic Forever". Since moving to Atlanta, I've had to adapt to the often horrid traffic conditions throughout the city. The experience has been a great test of patience and also a source of inspiration. These videos discussed how smart city design and sufficient public transportation are some of the greatest ways to improve quality of life for an entire city. If people at the lowest end of SES have good access to public transportation, it can improve access to jobs and help reduce income inequality. If we can advocate for simple road design changes and improved public transportation, we have the opportunity to reduce traffic fatalities, increase quality of life for all city residents, boost economic development, and provide access to jobs and services for our most disadvantaged populations.

Yesterday was National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness day (9/27/17). The CDC sent out a memo about the status of HIV prevention efforts in response. The memo stated that gay men who are HIV positive with an undetectable viral load are unable to transmit the infection to their partners according to a large study (zero new infections were observed in the HIV- partners in the study). It's amazing to see current treatment and prevention efforts stopping further propagation of the disease and helps remove stigma from HIV+ gay men in the LGBT community. There's still a lot of work to be done from a public health perspective, but this is a major step for all communities struggling with HIV.
