Trust Building & Cultivating Resiliency
Hi all - thanks to all of the final presenters these past few weeks, and for everyone's engagement in the chat.
Two weeks ago during my final presentation, I had a few requests for more information about trust building exercises and cultivating a culture of resiliency on a team. I supervise a team of 10 so I have some control over how my team creates space to do this.
I am curious to learn from you as well...
Question for group: how do you approach trust building and resiliency on your team? How have you seen it done well on other teams?
In our COVID-19 Outbreak Response team at the Washington State Department of Health I lead activities to intentionally build a resiliency culture on my team. I have attached a two-pager with details on some of our activities. Generally the goals are to -
- Build trust
- Create personal and team systems to encourage work boundaries and address burnout
- Develop intentional culture of resiliency

THANK you so much for sharing this very thoughtful attachment! I've really struggled to figure out how much "face" time is the right amount for the team to feel connected without being overscheduled. It seems the amount differs by the individual, and I'm also realizing that less isn't always more for some folks who claim to prefer less. . . I'm *always* surprised by how far and how long people can operate in a team and truly not know what the other components are doing or how the work efforts inter-relate. I don't know how to unearth that deficit earlier . . . . Folks seldom tell me how much they are confused. Maybe imposter syndrome can be a GOOD thing . . . :)
Thanks Laura!!! I lead a small team that have been working together for 5+ years. I would say that casual conversation is easy in our group and I try to be proactive with engaging in our Google group chat throughout the day, as well as trying to meet in person 1x a month. However, when it comes to difficult discussions and role dynamics, things can we uncomfortable. I am hoping that trying some of these activities will help with this.
Appreciate all of these, Laura---including the importance of modeling really taking time off (& not checking emails, etc.) so team feels this is OK, expected, what we do to take care of ourselves.
