Fellowship Accomplishments
Created in 2003, the Applied Epidemiology Fellowship is designed
for recent masters or doctoral-level graduates who are interested in
public health practice at the state or local level. This storied program
provides two years of rigorous training and valued mentorship that
is focused on three key concepts: 1) Create and train a core group of
public health workers, 2) Provide service to the sponsoring agency,
and 3) Strengthen capacity in applied epidemiology across public
health institutions. As evidenced by CSTE’s own Epidemiology
Capacity Assessment, gaps in the workforce are an ongoing concern
Class XVII Graduates for our members and the nation overall.
Fellows work closely with experienced epidemiologists at all levels
Elaina Andreychak William Koehne of government and on projects flexible enough to meet their own
Linnae Baird Madeline LeVasseur subject area interests. Created by CDC and CSTE in 2008, the
Cory Cole Tyler Moore Applied Epidemiology Competencies (AECs) serve as a framework
Tia Dostal Erica Mumm for the fellowship. The AECs will be formally revised in 2022 to
Rebecca Goldberg Asa Ohsaki maintain alignment with current public health practice, with an
increased focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, data science,
Amanda Jara Adrienne Sherman pandemic preparedness, and communication science.
